Game Development Process
The development process for this game began with noting down ideas for 2D Platform games. After meeting together as a group it was decided that the theme would be Halloween and the main player would be a mouse. The objective of the mouse would be to collect cheese, defend against enemies and clear all levels. First week was roles, task distribution, prototyping and sprite creation. The following sprite was created for the player:
As for the enemies, it was decided that we will have 3 enemies: cats, bats and spiders. Since our main character is a mouse, we had to think of a creative weapon the mouse could use to defend against enemies. We decided that the mouse would be able to throw the cheese it collects to kill the enemies. One cheese to kill the bat, three cheeses to kill the cat and spider cannot be killed, only avoided. The following sprites were created for the enemies:
After the sprites were created, we started working on the levels. After the first four levels were completed, we began the process of play testing to receive feedback.
Play Test 1 Feedback:
- Levels too easy
- Add animation for idle stage
Play Test 2 Feedback:
- Different backgrounds should be used
- Need better background music
- Menu buttons don't work
- Need more lives
- Lives don't reset after game restart
Play Test 3 Feedback:
- last level too hard
- Add ending/winning scene
- First two levels can be more tutorial based
